Cyclone Arnab: Rain alerts for eight Telangana districts, Hyderabad turns cooler
Four districts face heavy to very heavy rainfall forecasts as Hyderabad braces for showers and Telangana records lower temperatures.

Hyderabad | 28-10-2026 : Eight Telangana districts are under rainfall alerts for Wednesday, October 28, as Cyclone Arnab brings cooler conditions across the state and a forecast of rain for Hyderabad. According to The Hindu, the India Meteorological Department’s Hyderabad centre forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in four districts and heavy rainfall in four others, with all 33 districts potentially experiencing the storm’s effects.
Hyderabad and surrounding areas were forecast to have cloudy skies, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds during the 48 hours covered by Tuesday afternoon’s bulletin, The Hindu reported. The city’s observatory also recorded a temperature decline of 0.8°C in the 24 hours ending Tuesday evening.
Orange and yellow alerts across eight districts
The IMD-Hyderabad bulletin issued on Tuesday placed Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Mahabubabad under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall on Wednesday, according to The Hindu. Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Suryapet, Warangal and Hanumakonda were placed under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall.
The report said isolated locations receiving heavy rain could experience flooded roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpass closures, particularly in urban areas. These were forecast risks rather than reports of flooding already occurring in Telangana.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds were considered very likely at isolated places in Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanumakonda. Similar conditions, including winds of 30–40 kmph, were forecast at isolated places in the remaining districts, The Hindu reported.
Temperatures fall across Telangana
In a separate report published on Wednesday, The Hindu said Arnab had eased the heat across most of Telangana, with noticeably cooler conditions from late evening through early morning over the preceding few days. Citing the IMD’s Hyderabad centre, it reported temperature decreases ranging from 0.5°C to 2.5°C during the 24 hours ending Tuesday evening.
Hanumakonda registered the largest decline, at 2.5°C, followed by Bhadrachalam at 2.2°C and Ramagundam at 1.6°C. Hyderabad’s decrease was smaller, at 0.8°C. The cooler weather was expected to persist on Wednesday as the cyclone’s influence extended across the state, according to the newspaper.
Storm moves inland after coastal landfall
Meanwhile, Siasat, carrying a Press Trust of India report, said Arnab completed its landfall along the Andhra Pradesh–Yanam coast on Wednesday morning. Citing the IMD, the report said the storm crossed the coast between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. as a very severe cyclonic storm, with maximum sustained winds of 125–135 kmph.
By 8.30 a.m., it had weakened to a severe cyclonic storm, with winds falling to 110–120 kmph. The IMD expected it to move north-northwest over the following 48 hours and gradually weaken, tracking across parts of southern Odisha before moving towards Chhattisgarh, according to Siasat.
In Odisha, more than 30,000 people had been evacuated and 2,037 cyclone shelters kept ready, Siasat reported, citing Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari. He said there had been reports of uprooted trees in some southern districts, but no reports of major damage or casualties at that stage.
