PM Modi Receives Uzbekistan’s Highest State Honour During Central Asia Visit
India and Uzbekistan Deepen Cooperation in Trade, Defence, Energy and Digital Technology

New Delhi/Tashkent, August 30, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Sunday conferred Uzbekistan’s highest state honour, the Order of “Oliy Darajali Dustlik”, during his official visit to the country.
The honour came as India and Uzbekistan looked to deepen their bilateral relationship, with discussions focusing on areas including trade, defence, energy and digital cooperation. Modi’s visit to Uzbekistan forms part of a four-day Central Asian tour that also includes the Kyrgyz Republic and the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.
The visit carries significance for India’s engagement with Central Asia, a region that has become increasingly important in discussions around connectivity, energy security, trade and regional stability.
During his meetings with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, both sides are expected to explore opportunities to expand economic and strategic cooperation. Digital technologies and emerging areas of collaboration are also gaining importance as India seeks to strengthen its economic and technological partnerships beyond traditional sectors.
The Prime Minister’s Uzbekistan visit runs from August 29 to 30, followed by his visit to the Kyrgyz Republic from August 31 to September 1 for the SCO summit.
For New Delhi, the trip provides an opportunity to reinforce India’s presence in Central Asia while building closer relationships with countries that have growing importance in trade, energy and regional diplomacy.
