🚨 MAUK NEWS | RIYADH UPDATE
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia | October 19, 2026: Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport has resumed operations following a prolonged suspension linked to security incidents earlier this month. However, the return of airport operations does not yet mean that air travel has returned to normal, with continued flight disruptions affecting passengers travelling to and from the Saudi capital.

According to reporting published on October 19, the airport resumed operations on Sunday, October 18, after being closed for more than a week. Several international airlines have continued to suspend or adjust their services, leaving travellers facing uncertainty over departure times, cancellations and connecting flights.

Security Developments and Airport Operations

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation previously confirmed that King Khalid International Airport was targeted in attacks on October 8 and that the incidents resulted in three Saudi citizens losing their lives, injuries to other people and damage to property. Authorities subsequently continued safety assessments and emergency procedures following further incidents. "Source: Saudi Press Agency" (https://www.spa.gov.sa/en/w2697151).

Separately, Saudi Gazette reported on October 18 that air-defence forces intercepted two ballistic missiles targeting Khamis Mushait and three drones over the Riyadh and Eastern regions. Civil Defence issued early-warning alerts before announcing that the danger had passed.

These developments underline the importance of following official safety instructions and checking verified updates rather than relying on unconfirmed information circulating on social media.

What Travellers Should Know

Passengers planning to travel through Riyadh are advised to:

- Check directly with their airline for the latest flight status before leaving for the airport.
- Confirm any changes to departure times, terminal arrangements or connecting flights.
- Monitor official Saudi Civil Defence announcements and relevant airport notices.
- Contact their airline or travel agent regarding rebooking and refund arrangements if a flight is cancelled.
- Avoid photographing or sharing images of security incidents, interception sites or restricted facilities.

Airport reopening should not be interpreted as confirmation that every airline or route is operating normally. Flight schedules may change at short notice.

A Message to Riyadh Residents

For the millions of residents, workers, families and visitors who depend on Riyadh’s transport links, reliable information is essential during periods of disruption. Travellers are encouraged to remain calm, plan ahead and follow instructions issued by the relevant authorities.

MAUK News will continue to monitor verified developments and share important updates for the community as further information becomes available.

Stay informed. Stay alert. Rely on verified information.

May Allah protect the people of Saudi Arabia and all those affected by these difficult circumstances, grant safety to travellers, and bring peace and stability to the region. Ameen.
