Dubai | 28-10-2026 : Shadman Islam reached an unbeaten half-century as Bangladesh moved to 119 for three on the opening day of the first Test against West Indies in Mirpur, according to BBC Sport’s live scorecard. Bangladesh were batting after 36.4 overs, with West Indies yet to begin their first innings.

The hosts entered the match without Mushfiqur Rahim, who suffered a hand injury during training on the eve of the Test, ESPNcricinfo reported. Hridoy replaced him in the playing XI and was unbeaten on five alongside Shadman at the supplied scorecard update.

Shadman anchors Bangladesh innings

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat at Shere Bangla National Stadium, according to BBC Sport. Their first wicket fell with the total on nine when Tanzid Hasan Tamim was caught by Justin Greaves off Jayden Seales for seven in the seventh over.

Shadman remained at the crease through the next two dismissals. Mominul Haque contributed 28 from 51 balls, including two fours, before being caught by Shamar Joseph off Jomel Warrican. His departure left Bangladesh 68 for two after 21.2 overs.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto then made 19 from 42 deliveries, hitting one boundary. Warrican dismissed him leg before wicket with the score at 110 for three after 35.3 overs, giving the bowler his second wicket of the innings.

At the update, Shadman had scored 56 from 101 balls, with five fours and no sixes. Hridoy’s five came from three deliveries and included a boundary. Bangladesh’s total also contained four extras: three byes and one leg bye, according to the BBC scorecard.

Warrican takes two as Bishop makes debut

Warrican’s figures stood at two for 23 from eight overs. Seales had taken one for 14 from eight overs, three of them maidens, while Joseph had conceded 14 without a wicket from 5.4 overs.

West Indies also used captain Roston Chase, Greaves and Joshua Bishop. Chase’s six overs cost 32 runs, while Greaves returned figures of none for 15 from five overs, including two maidens. Bishop, making his Test debut according to ESPNcricinfo, had bowled four overs for 17 runs without taking a wicket.

Mushfiqur expected back for second Test

ESPNcricinfo described Mushfiqur’s injury as a contusion and reported that he was expected to be fit for the second Test. The outlet attributed his absence from the opener to the injured finger not improving sufficiently by the morning of the match, citing Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan.

That expected return is not confirmation of his availability. For the opening Test, the BBC lineup listed Litton Kumer Das as Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper and Shanto as captain, with Hridoy included in the batting order.

The first Test is scheduled for October 28 to November 1, according to BBC Sport. The supplied score is an in-play snapshot from day one, not a close-of-play total or a match result.
