Two BRS MLCs Arrested Over Alleged Remarks Against Telangana Speaker, Later Granted Bail
Hyderabad's political atmosphere remains tense as the Assembly session faces disruption amid a controversy involving alleged remarks against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

Hyderabad | 09-09-2026: Hyderabad witnessed another politically charged development on Wednesday as two Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Members of the Legislative Council were arrested in connection with a case concerning alleged derogatory remarks against Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
According to reports, Saifabad police arrested MLCs T. Madhusudhan and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy following a complaint relating to the alleged remarks. The matter has added to tensions surrounding the ongoing Telangana Assembly session.
The two legislators were subsequently produced before a city court. The court rejected the police request for remand, following which both MLCs were released on personal sureties, according to reports.
The controversy has contributed to disruptions inside the Assembly, with the ruling and opposition sides trading accusations over the conduct of legislators and the handling of protests.
BRS has maintained that Madhusudhan expressed regret and withdrew his remarks. The Speaker, however, has said that the comments were personally offensive and involved a reference to his mother.
The episode comes against the backdrop of wider political tensions in Telangana, including allegations by BRS leaders concerning the treatment of women legislators during protests outside the Assembly. The state government has said that it is seeking a report on the allegations and that appropriate action will be taken if any wrongdoing is established.
The developments are being closely watched in Hyderabad as the Assembly session continues, with the controversy raising renewed questions about political conduct, legislative privilege and the manner in which disputes between the government and opposition are handled.
